Pools

Safety Statement

Safety and hygiene are of paramount importance when thinking about using a birthing pool. There are three aspects to consider; firstly Microbiological Safety, secondly, Electrical Safety and thirdly, Structural Safety. At BirthWorks, your comfort and safety are extremely important to us. We take great care to ensure that all our equipment is tested and cleaned and checked between every hire.

Microbiological Safety

The heater units and hoses are disinfected using a disinfection protocol approved by the Health and Safety Executive. BirthWorks does not take responsibility for disinfecting the liners. We do, of course, ensure that your liner comes to you clean. We recommend you use a household disinfectant to disinfect the liner. We can supply a disposable liner if required, however we believe it's much less wasteful to simply disinfect the pool.

If water is kept in a pool for more than 24 hours, bacteria and algae begin to grow in the water. To counteract this, we offer a unique Water Maintenance Kit for use with the BirthWorks heater unit, which allows the water to be kept at a constant temperature. This is a two part system of Bayroplus liquid to prevent the growth of algae and Bayroklar tablets which prevent bacteria multiplying in the water. The water is circulated through a filter chamber. With this system, it's safe to keep the water in the pool for weeks at a time.

Electrical Safety

Our heater units are designed to be electrically safe for use when people are in the water, the units comply with European safety standards. They are supplied with an earth leakage circuit breaker to trip the supply in case of any problem.

Structural Safety

Our pools are designed to have considerable spare strength capacity. We use a heavy gauge PVC liner, capable of holding the full weight of the water even if a panel or handrail is broken and/or becomes detached. The liner is highly resistant to puncturing - even if a sharp object cut through the liner, it wouldn't burst. It would simply dribble water, giving time to empty the pool before a large puddle developed. It's also possible to patch the liner, with the water still in the pool, using the liner repair kit supplied with every hire.

We take great pride in ensuring that all our equipment offers you the best possible standards of safety and hygiene. If you have any questions about any aspects of this, please do contact us, we'll be happy to help.
